Genesys International have recently introduced a new membrane cleaning chemical with a neutral pH formulation that is extremely effective at removing organics, clay, biofilm and iron. Due to the composition it is suitable for cleaning cellulose acetate membranes and is a gentler cleaning option for polyamide membranes.

This chemical is an important development for operators due to the fact that membrane manufacturers are now tightening their warranty specifications for cleaning; reducing the maximum alkaline pH acceptable at temperatures above 35ºC due to fear of hydrolysis.

If you have a site where you would like to try the new neutral cleaner, please contact us

Tequatic TM Plus Filters have been developed to efficiently remove high solids from problem waters even in the presence of fats, oils and grease.

These filters combine continuous cleaning, cross flow filtration with forced settling and solids collection into one device.

These filters require no backwashing, minimal filter changes, low chemicals and high recovery leading to advantages such as higher uptime, lower maintenance, less consumables and less waste, they also present the opportunity to reuse water and cut water costs.

Click here for more information about the Tequatic TM Plus Filters and the value they deliver to industrial wastewater treatment and reuse applications.

Desal Supplies now have a Tequatic TM Plus F50 Filter which is skid mounted for pilot trials and process demonstrations, please email us for more information.

Production of the new iSave 50 and iSave 70 energy recovery devices has now begun, these are Danfoss' highest capacity energy recovery devices boosting ERD capacity by 75% compared to the iSave 40, the larger models are now capable of flowrates upto 70 m³/h at efficiency rates of 92%. The range of iSave ERD's now covers flow rates from 7 to 70 m³/h.

APP Pump

Danfoss have recently extended their range of APP high pressure pumps to include the APP53-78 range, these pumps are capable of flows upto 78m³/h at 80 barg and open the door for use in far more RO applications.  The data sheet for these pumps can be downloaded by clicking here

The Genesys membrane laboratory in Madrid provides a range of services specifically designed to identify the causes of membrane failure in reverse osmosis (RO), nanofiltration (NF), and ultrafiltration (UF) plants.

FilmTecTM ECO-440i and FilmTecTM XFRLE-400/34i reverse osmosis elements have been installed to treat a combination of lake source water, site drainage, wastewater and chemical waste to produce clean water to a Canadian Power Station.

The use of FilmTec ECO membranes has resulted in 30 percent savings in energy whereas the XFRLE membranes have improved pressure drops and reduced membrane fouling, click here to read the full story.

Desal are the UK and Ireland distributor for FilmTec membranes and have a wide stock range available for immediate despatch, to check prices and availabilities please email your requirements to

Dow Introduces ROSA 9

When designing an RO or NF water treatment system, accuracy is critical to ensure you get the most from your system.

Due to ever increasing system demands, ROSA (Reverse Osmosis System Analysis) design software continues to evolve and grow to enable complex designs to be carried out which will ultimately provide the best solution to meet the required needs. The latest version ROSA 9.0.0 is now available to aid in system design using Dow FilmTec membrane elements, and now includes :

Improved modelling for brackish water elements, adding feed TDS dependency

Includes new ECO products

System performance is usually characterised by two operation parameters which are product flow and salt rejection. A given feed water analysis should be available to that feed pressure, temperature and recovery can be referenced. Depending upon the system, the goal is to minimise feed pressure and membrane costs whilst maximising permeate quality and recovery.
